PLEASE NOTE - Attendance is by pre-booking only!

New Mills Station - Hague Bar - Strines - Roman Lakes - Mellor - Mellor Church - Moorend - Birchenough - Cobden Edge - Mellor Cross - Rachel's Stile - Shaw Farm - Eaves Knoll - New Mills.

An amble by the river along the Goyt Way all the way to the Roman Lakes via the picturesque weir and viaduct. We'll take a very short detour to appreciate, but not to cross, the pretty footbridge over the water, before making our way to the Roman Lakes (Cafe & public toilets)! On, through Mellor, to Mellor Church where there is an archeological dig and a very interesting and curious tombstone. A short walk along the road and across the fields and it's up onto Cobden Edge with stunning views over to Marple, Stockport and the Cheshire Plain and beyond! Up and up to the Cross on Soldiers Knob that was erected in 1970. Past this to Rachel's Stile, a quiet spot with a sad history. On a clear day, as many as 10 counties might be seen on this walk. We finish by dropping down to Eaves Knoll via the golf course, with a steep descent back down the road into New Mills.
