Walks can be tailored
to suit you or your group! I offer a variety of walks in a variety of places. Walks can be Easy, Moderate or Strenuous,
depending on what you want:-
Easy: These routes should pose no problem
for any averagely fit person. Typically, low-level valley or river walks, although don't discount there being a hill
or two thrown in for good measure. It's always good to get a view! Anything up to 6 miles long.
Moderate: These are ideal walks for people looking for a more challenging
route. Some hills will be involved. Usually, between 6 & 9 miles long.
Strenuous: These are usually high-level walks with sections which
may not be particularly suitable for absolute beginners. The terrain is likely to be difficult underfoot. Usually, over 10
miles long.
The Choice is Yours!
Maybe there is a particular area that you want to explore, or maybe you
want a mystery trip...anything is possible.

If you are staying in one of the many conveniently located Peak District Hotels,
B&B's, Hostels or camp-sites, I am happy to meet you there and do a walk directly from your holiday-base. Alternatively,
we can meet up at any agreed location you have specified prior to the day of the walk.

Why "Grough-Stuff"?
The Northern Moors of the Peak District are a unique environment. The high moors of The Dark Peak
rise to more than 2000 feet, the highest hill being Kinder Scout at 2088ft (636 metres). The tops of these high moors are
covered in a thick blanket of "peat". Streams and rivers have carved deep channels through the peat and down to
the bedrock. These deep channels are locally known as "Groughs" (pronounced "Gruffs"). Some are more than 20ft deep! It's
a bit like an enormous 'maze'! Walking across this landscape is exhausting work. Navigating in a straight line is nigh
on impossible and when the mist comes down......many people shout for HEEEELP!!

*IMPORTANT TO NOTE (particularly for
the ladies).........Please don't be fooled into thinking that an organisation with the words "Grough-Stuff" in its
title is some sort of 'hard-core'; 'no pain-no gain' type of outfit run by an ex-SAS Commando....it isn't!! I don't advocate
the macho approach that certain outdoor organisations seem to thrive on. The emphasis is most definitely on
enjoyment, not hardship!
......................however, if you really, really, want
to do something a bit more arduous, then just ask me and I'll see what I can do. Anything is possible!
I am particularly keen to do walks of a linear nature, making best use of public transport. The Manchester - Sheffield
railway line bisects the pennines at the point where the Gritstone of the Dark Peak meets the Limestone of the White Peak.
It makes for a convenient method of starting and finishing many excellent walking routes.
The UK's first National Trail, The Pennine Way, starts (or finishes) at Edale, which is just one of the many Railway
stations on The Hope Valley Line.
Please take time to scrutinise
my website in detail. I like to keep it as up to date as possible, so please become a regular visitor. That way, you won't
miss anything. Pay particular attention to the 'links' on the pages. There are many more pages on this website which are not
listed on the Navigation Bar found on the left hand side of each page.
